Scope of this policy
This policy applies to the website, signup pages, alpha program, app, private conversations, Repair Sessions, Living Agreements, My Data area, and any other service operated under the softbond name that links to this policy.
If a particular page, feature, or agreement provides supplemental privacy terms, those supplemental terms apply only to that specific use. Otherwise, this policy is the central explanation of personal information and content stored in the service.
This policy is written in plain language so users can understand the product before using it. It is not legal advice, and the final legal version will be reviewed professionally before broad public launch.
Who is responsible and how to contact us
softbond controls the information stored in the service, meaning that we decide why information is collected, how it is stored, and what tools users have to control it.
You can contact us about privacy, security, access, export, correction, or deletion at contact@softbond.app. If a request requires identity verification, we will ask only for the details needed to confirm that the request comes from the account owner.
During alpha, some processes may be handled manually. Even then, the goal is to keep access limited, record the action, and provide a clear response whenever possible.
Information you provide
When you sign up for alpha or join a waitlist, we may collect your email, language, country, referral source, notes you send us, and basic technical data needed to prevent spam and operate the list.
In the product, we may collect account details, sign-in information from Apple, Google, or Facebook, language preferences, privacy settings, consent status, relationship details you choose to provide, and conversation content you write yourself.
If you contact us for support, feedback, or bug reporting, we store the request, contact method, and information you include. Please avoid sending sensitive information that is not needed to handle the request.
Conversation content, drafts, and approvals
During use, the service stores text you write, drafts, wording-change requests, approved messages, received responses, Repair Session details, and Living Agreements created from a conversation.
A draft is not a sent message. Content written in a private conversation, rejected wording, unapproved thoughts, and internal change requests stay on the writer's side and are not shown to the partner.
In a shared conversation, a message crosses to the other person only after explicit approval. This separation matters because the service is meant for moments when people need to think before sending.
Private and shared spaces
softbond separates personal space from couple space. Personal space is for thinking, wording, rehearsing a possible response, and preparing for a conversation. Couple space is for approved messages, Repair Sessions, and agreements both sides choose to manage together.
Inviting a partner does not give them access to your private conversation, draft history, or thoughts written before the invitation. They see only shared-space content or content you approved for sharing.
Even when two users are connected as a couple, each user keeps an independent account. Each person has the right to leave, request export, and request deletion for their own information, subject to the rules for shared information.
softbond AI processing and OpenAI
When you ask softbond for help with wording, clarification, preparation, rehearsing a possible response, or a Repair Session, the relevant text may be processed through the OpenAI API. Processing is needed to return wording, questions, summaries, conversation structure, or suggested responses.
The text sent for processing should be limited to what is needed for that action. For example, if you ask for alternative wording for one message, the entire relationship history does not need to be sent unless it is necessary for context.
During OpenAI processing, the provider must process the text in order to produce an answer. We therefore do not describe the content as unreadable by every processing provider during the action. We do explain when processing happens and why it is needed.
Usage, security, and system data
To run the service, we collect technical data such as device type, operating system, app version, IP address, access date and time, errors, crash events, performance data, sign-in attempts, and basic security settings.
This information helps us identify bugs, protect accounts, prevent harmful use, understand which features work, and improve the service without manually reading every conversation.
During alpha, we may collect more diagnostic data than usual in order to understand product issues. As the product stabilizes, the goal is to reduce technical collection that is not needed.
How we use information
We use information to provide the service, run private conversations and Repair Sessions, save Living Agreements, show the My Data area, send system messages, provide support, and prevent harmful use.
We also use information to improve the product: to understand where users get stuck, which wording is useful, which safety refusals were false positives, and which parts need clearer explanation.
We do not sell personal content. We do not use a private conversation to build a psychological profile of your partner, and we do not use your content to decide who is right in the relationship.
Derived insights
softbond may store derived insights from use, such as recurring topics, wording preferences, active agreements, Living Agreement reminders, or a communication pattern the user asked to track.
These insights are meant to help you understand your communication. They are not a diagnosis, relationship score, or determination about your partner's intentions.
Insights stored about you should be visible in My Data and available for export or deletion when possible. Safety and operational records may appear in a full export even if they are not shown as everyday insights in the interface.
Sharing information with providers
To operate the service, we may use providers for infrastructure, storage, authentication, email, monitoring, softbond AI processing, issue analysis, future payments, and support. Providers receive only the information needed for their role.
Providers are not allowed to use information for independent purposes unrelated to operating the service for us. As the service moves toward broader launch, data-processing agreements will be signed with relevant providers where needed.
We may share information if required by law, under a valid order, to protect users or the service, or as part of a company restructuring. Even then, we try to limit the information disclosed.
Security and encryption
Messages, drafts, account data, and service data are stored and transmitted encrypted according to strict standards for communication and storage. Separation between personal information and shared couple information is part of the security model, not only an interface decision.
We use access controls, permission separation, operator-access logs, security-event monitoring, and least-access practices. The goal is for people on the team to see personal content only when there is a clear and limited need, such as issue resolution or legal obligation.
No online service is completely free of risk. We combine encryption, operational controls, deletion processes, and incident monitoring instead of relying on a single protection layer.
Retention, deletion, and export
Information is kept for as long as it is needed to operate the account, show conversation and agreement history, meet legal requirements, resolve issues, prevent harmful use, or serve another purpose described in this policy.
You can ask to export your data, delete specific items, or delete your account. Account deletion includes a grace period of up to 30 days during which you can cancel the request; after that, deletion is performed in a way that is not designed for normal recovery.
Shared information created in a couple context requires more careful handling because both users may have a right to see approved messages or agreements created together. Rules for deleting shared information will appear clearly in the product before irreversible action.
Your rights and choices
Depending on applicable law, you may have the right to access information, correct inaccurate information, request deletion, restrict processing, receive a copy of information, object to certain processing, or withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
Some choices will be available directly in the product, such as deleting an item, exporting data, or closing an account. More complex requests can be sent to us by email.
Withdrawing consent for softbond AI processing may limit features that depend on wording, summarization, or suggested responses. We will still try to preserve access to already stored information and basic tools where the product allows.
Minimum age and children
softbond is intended for adults age 18 and older. The service is not intended for children, teenagers, or parental monitoring of a child's conversations.
If we learn that a user under 18 created an account or used the service, we will review the account and work to close it and delete information according to this policy and applicable law.
Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when the product, providers, processing practices, or legal requirements change. The last-updated date appears at the top of the page.
If a material change affects user rights or use of personal content, we will show an appropriate notice on the website or inside the product before continued use, where required or appropriate.
